Our students come to school each day ready to learn. The daily attendance rate is 95%. The drop-out rate is less than
one percent, for reasons other than finances.
Students served by the Strong City Schools experience
hardships that interfere with growth and development:
- inadequate heating, cooling, or electricity within their homes;
- guardians who defer healthcare;
- the responsibility of serving as an interpreter for first-generation family members; and
- learning new cultural norms
More than 90 percent of the student population represents racial and ethnic
minorities. In addition, 40 percent are learning English as a second language.
Compounding these difficulties, students live in places where poverty, addiction, violence and crime rates soar.

- One-third live at or below the poverty level;
- 85 percent qualify for free or reduced-cost lunches; and
- 33 percent live in single-parent households.
Despite the stark conditions these children face, all test at or above grade level
on standardized tests.
